VPRS 19075 Database Print-Out Index to Port of Melbourne Sounding Plans

This series comprises paper printouts from the Victorian Channels Authority’s computer-based drawing/plan database. The template for a database entry has been printed out, and the plan details filled in by hand. The pages form an index to some of the plans in VPRS 18789 Port of Melbourne Sounding Plans.

This series is not a printout of data as entered directly into the database, but a set of blank templates with the fields filled in with pen. It is unclear from the records whether these hand-filled pages may have later been used for data entry into the database, or if the data was copied from another system. In the absence of the database itself, these print-outs have been retained as the only known index to VPRS 18789.

Each page generally contains the plan number, location covered, the project type (e.g. berth survey, dredging instruction), the date, and the names of the people conducting the survey and checking the plan. This same information is usually found on the plans themselves.

These records were transferred to PROV from the Queenscliff Maritime Museum.
