After a report and recommendation from the Sub-Committee on Governance, in 1974 many of the standing committees were absorbed to form the Executive Committee, renamed the Executive and Finance Committee in 1976. Those standing committees were the Finance Committee, House Committee, Jessie McPherson Community Hospital Sub-Committee, Priorities Sub-Committee and the Building Committee. Some sub-committees were abolished while other existing committees were retained as advisory committees without executive authority. New committees that were formed were the Joint Consultation Committee for consideration of medical staff matters, and the Facilities Utilisation Committee whose duty primarily was to regularly review the occupancy of beds in the hospital and to recommend changes where need for adjustment was evident. The House Committee was reconstituted in 1975 and primarily monitored patients' comfort and welfare. However, the minutes for this committee have not been found to exist. Full description

This series comprises minutes of the committees and sub-committees, established under the General Committee, later called the Board of Management, from the earliest period of the Queen Victoria Medical Centre (VA 1254) prior to its absorption into the Monash Medical Centre (VA 2823) in 1987.

The General Committee, and later the Board of Management, was the group responsible for the overall management of the hospital (Minutes of the General Committee and Board of Management – VPRS 18812). The General Committee established further committees and sub-committees from 1896 to support the needs of the hospital. This series includes all known committee and sub-committee minutes, excluding the Building Committee (VPRS 18821), the Finance Committee (VPRS 18820) and the House Committee (VPRS 18817).

The Finance Committee was also reconstituted in 1978.
