VPRS 18805 History of Kew Children’s Cottages

Full description

This series consists of a bound folio of original printed material relating to the Kew Cottages. The volume was created by Irena Higgins, a social worker at the Kew Cottages and Kew Asylum (VA 2840) from 1951-1968. The material included in the folio was collected during her employment.

The folio contains documents including text of talks given by Irena Higgins, correspondence, reporting to the Mental Health Authority, and forms used at the Cottages. There is no index or contents page, but the folio is divided into three roughly equal sections: ‘archival material’, ‘Parent’s Association newsletters’, and ‘notes and instructions’.

This folio later formed part of the collection of Dr Cliff Judge, who worked as a psychiatrist at Kew Cottages. His name appears on the front cover. It was then donated to the Kew Historical Society before being transferred into PROV custody.
