VPRS 18783 Harbour Works Plans

Full description

This series comprises plans of harbour infrastructure, created by the Ports and Harbours Branch of the Department of Trade and Customs and later the Public Works Department. The plans primarily depict jetties, wharves and piers, with a small number of channels.

The jetties depicted in this series span most of Victoria, including St Kilda, Sorrento, Frankston, Apollo Bay, and Inverloch. There are usually multiple plans for each jetty, depicting alterations over time.

Each plan contains drawings of the proposed work, and the majority also includes the cost of the work and what appears to be a job number by financial year – for example, 1901-2/404. The job number has also been included in the listing where it exists, along with the control symbol in HW/J/#### format described below. Most also have multiple dates, including what appears to be the drawing date with the initials of a Ports and Harbours staff member and the date the contract for the works was entered into. Most also bear the stamp of the Ports and Harbours Branch.

This series was transferred to PROV from the Queenscliff Maritime Museum.
