This series consists of minute books and agenda papers of the Board of Studies and Academic Board of the Preston Technical College and the Preston Institute of Technology (VA 1212) from 1968 to 1978. The Board of Studies changed its name to Academic Board in July 1970.

The Board comprised all Heads of Schools, all Heads of Departments, the Principal and Deputy Principal, the Academic Registrar, Librarian, and Institute Secretary. The Board dealt with a wide range of academic and administrative matters, and reported and made recommendations to the Council of the Preston Institute of Technology . The role of the Board was to administer the academic business of the institute. Matters that were dealt with by the Board included curriculum issues, such as changes to courses or proposed new courses, applications from students for awarding of diplomas, applications for exemptions, academic staffing matters, furniture and equipment, and general administrative matters. The Board also received reports from the various Faculty Boards, the Examination Board, the Library, and various sub-committees on their activities and issues.

There are references in the minutes to preceding and following meetings, which suggests that the series preceded 1968 and continued past 1978, however earlier and later minute books are not extant.

The minutes are in two bound volumes, and have been signed by the Chairman. The series also includes meeting agendas and papers from 1969 to 1976.
