This series comprises of records of the Amalgamation Planning Committee, which was a joint committee between the State College of Victoria at Coburg (VA 5188) and the Preston Institute of Technology (VA 1212). In 1981 the two institutions agreed to merge, eventually becoming the Phillip Institute of Technology (VA 1052).The Amalgamation Planning Committee was established in order to progress the amalgamation of the two institutions. The committee was tasked with investigating areas of commonality and difference between the two institutions, and developing a framework for the new institution. Matters considered by the committee were:
- the name of the new institution
- constitution and legislation matters
- academic governance
- staffing
- financial systems
- library services
- student records
- student services
- and senior appointments.
Working parties were set up to investigate these issues and provide reports to the Committee.
The series includes one signed bound minute book containing the Amalgamation Planning Committee's meetings from July to November 1981. Included at the back of the book are the minutes of a subcommittee: Selection Committee for the Position of Chief Executive Office / Director Designate, September 1981.
This series also contains committee bulletins which were distributed to staff and provided a summary of the decisions and activities of the committee. These files also contain some loose copies of minutes.
There is also a file containing documents and correspondence regarding the Committee's selection and appointment of Dr. Foster as the Director of the new institute.
