Full description

Under the provisions of the Cemeteries Act (1890), each cemetery trust is obligated to maintain a registered book of all interments (burials) at that cemetery. This series consists of the register of interments at the Goornong Cemetery Trust (VA 5156).

The amount of information in each record varies, but each entry has provision for the recording of:

- Number of interment
- Name of deceased
- Age
- Last residence
- Rank (profession or marital status)
- Nature of disease or supposed cause of death
- Denomination
- Minister to officiate
- Day and hour of funeral
- Details of grave (whether common or private)

Occasionally more than one individual has been interred in the same grave. In most cases this has been recorded in the interment book.
