Full description
The minutes record the proceedings of meetings of the Mental Hygiene Authority and its successor, the Mental Health Authority.Meetings were generally held weekly. Attendees comprised members of the Authority and departmental officers. Two members constituted a quorum. The meeting minutes were confirmed by the Chairman signing his name.
The books are in the form of binders, including Kalamazoo. Folios containing the minutes were divided into two parts. The main part was to record discussion of each agenda Item. The smaller part was used to record the Decision. The decision column recorded file references, names of people dealing with a particular matter, ticks and other comments. Some books do not have any entries in the Decision section. From Unit 14 onwards, comments in relation to decisions are typed.
Folios are numbered sequentially in hand writing. The numbering ceases with Unit 10, in April 1974. Books 1 to 5 contain a list of Authority Meetings with folio reference numbers at the front of each book.
There is an Index to Minutes,(VPRS 18226) comprising 5 books. Meetings after April 1974 have not been indexed.
The final meeting of the Mental Health Authority was held on 6 December 1978.
Following the abolition of the Mental Health Authority, an executive committee of the Health Commission of Victoria was formed. It held its first meeting on 7 December 1978.
