This series consists of a volume which provides summary information relating to trial leave granted to residents at the Janefield Colony and Janefield Training Centre (VA 2847).

Trial Leave Register records the following information:

- Sequential number
- Name of Patient
- Date of Admission (by gender)
- Period of Leave Allowed
- Whether Leave Extended
- Date Returned to Hospital
- Remarks (this column was used to record contact details of parents or guardian).

There are far more entries for females than there are for males.

Trial leave periods can be for as little as two days, though periods of many months are more common.

The register contains some loose medical certificates, as well as various memoranda relating to the institution's obligations when making a record of trial leave.
