This series consists of records that pertain to the establishment of the Coal Corporation of Victoria and Board and the functions of the Corporation.

The Coal Corporation of Victoria, a body corporate, was established under the State Electricity Commission (Coal Corporation of Victoria) Act 1984, No. 10145. The objectives of the Corporation were defined in the Act, Part II, 69. (1)(5). A six member Board of Management to be known as Coal Corporation of Victoria Board was established by the Act. The Victorian Brown Coal Council was abolished under Part III of the Act.

The records contain the transfer and establishment arrangements of the Victorian Brown Coal Council to the Coal Corporation of Victoria, including staff, remuneration and classification review, correspondence, memoranda, business plans, research and development.
