Full description

This series contains summary history cards of juvenile justice clients who passed through or were admitted to Turana Youth Training Centre (VA 971) between 1961 and 1990. However, the records were created by the relevant central Department at the time.

Since all young people sentenced under the Juvenile Justice Program were received at the Turana Youth Training Centre (VA 971), the cards represent a summary history of such clients throughout the State for that period.

The cards were managed by the Youth Welfare Division which was initially part of the Social Welfare Branch, Chief Secretary's Department (VA 2784) then moved to the Social Welfare Department (VA 946) in 1971. The cards were then managed by subsequent departments to the Social Welfare Department until 1990.

The cards record the following information:
- Personal and physical details
- Offence, bail, movement and legal details during client involvement with the juvenile justice program. This sometimes includes information regarding parole.
