Other information is recorded, such as the station or branch at which the officer worked, and details of any promotions, discharges or transfers to other stations.Please note that salary records from employees of the Police Department and Office of the Chief Commissioner of Police can be located in VPRS 4402 Record of Public Servants 1884-1925 and VPRS 9889 Record Cards of Public Servants 1925-1977 (these series were created by the Public Service Board [VA 886]).A previous series is in PROV custody: VPRS 1775 Register of Police Salaries and Wages 1905-1925. Victoria Police Force (VA 724) was established under the control of the Chief Commissioner of Police in 1853. The administrative structure of this agency made the distinction between public service staff (sometimes referred to as 'unsworn members', working within the Police Department and the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Police) and the police force itself (those serving as police officers). In the Blue Books for this period, the Police Department and General Police are two separate branches within Chief Secretary's.
