VPRS 17138 Town Clerk's Contract Register

Full description

Municipal Councils were required to maintain a contract register under Municipal Accounting Regulations 1968, clauses 58 and 61. This series may have been created for administrative convenience.

This contract register was maintained by the Town Clerk. It provides a brief summary of contracts entered into by the Council for goods and services. Information in the registers includes registration number, name of contractor, date of acceptance description of work, cost, extras, and other details. The following are some examples of the type of work for which contracts were let: cast iron valve, additions to beef slaughter house, printing requirements, and erection of residence for abattoirs inspector.

City Engineer's Contract Register

The City Engineer's contract register (VPRS 9437) has been transferred to the custody of the Public Record Office. It is not known whether the City Engineer's contract register superseded that of the Town Clerk, or if both contract registers were maintained concurrently for a certain period of time.
