Full description

This series is a register of the officers employed within the Penal Department of the Colonial Secretary's Office. The volume appears to have been used only during the years 1853 and 1854 with details recording details of some staff appointmed to positions as early as 1850.

Entries are made in this volume to record all officers either holding a particular type of position or at specific penal establishments. Specific penal establishments recorded in the volume include the Collingwood, Richmond, Portland and Marine Stockades, the Main Depot and the prison Hulks "Deborah", "Lysander", "President", "Success" and "Sacremento".
