Full description

In May 1996, the Government moved responsibility for electricity, gas and the aluminium industry reform into an integrated Energy Projects Division within the Department of Treasury and Finance. This was done to maximise competitive outcomes and to manage the residual privatisation of State-owned electricity assets.

As part of the new administrative arrangements, the government abolished the Office of State Owned Enterprises and created a new Energy Projects Division (EPD) with responsibility for gas, electricity and aluminium reform.

The series created by the Energy Projects Division documented the energy reform process. Many of the files were top numbered from other record keeping systems, in particular, VPRS 9458 General Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number System

The Privatisation and Industry Reform Division and the Energy Projects Division were combined to form Commercial Policy and Projects (CPP) Division effective from 1 July 1999. At that point in time several files from this record series were transferred to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment VA 3972 for functional reasons.
