VPRS 16497 Exhibits

Full description

Exhibits are the documents or other items introduced as evidence during the Commission's hearings. The Commission tendered more than 1,000 exhibits into evidence, encompassing nearly 17,000 documents, photos, maps, and audio-visual and other material.

All the exhibits in this series are in digital format. Physical objects, such as the electricity insulators produced in relation to the investigations into the causes of the fires, were not transferred to Public Record Office Victoria (PROV).

Note that not every item referenced in the Commission’s transcripts of proceedings (VPRS 16488) were tendered as an exhibit - some exhibits were subject to suppression or exclusion orders. See the Commission's final report for further information. Also, witness statements may not include oral changes made by the witness when giving evidence. For details of such changes, refer to the relevant transcript (see VPRS 16488).

Very large files (mostly audio) were split into smaller parts for purposes of transfer. They have been allocated a fractional exhibit number. For example, EXH-0060.00, EXH-0060.01, EXH-0060.02, etc. are parts of Exhibit 60, audio of the ABC Local Radio 744 broadcast during the fire period.
