This series was used to facilitate access to Secretary's Inward Correspondence filed in VPRS 421 Secretary's Inward Registered Correspondence, Annual Single Number System from ?1963 to 1983. Details included the registered number and subject of the letter.

When correspondence was received at the Railway Department it was first registered in VPRS 12605 File Movement and Attachment Books, Annual Single Number System and then indexed by name in VPRS 16321 and by subject (in this series).

All correspondence was then filed in registration number order in VPRS 421 Secretary's Inward Registered Correspondence, Annual Single Number System.
