The Timber Promotion Council (previously known as Timber Promotion Committee from 1969 to 1975) was established in 1969 by Regulation under powers conferred by Section 99 of the Forests Act 1958. It was a body comprising representatives of the Secretary of the Department and of the timber industry, to promote the use of timber. The records were created to document the Committee's/Council's meetings and the performance of its functions. The records consist of volumes and files of meeting minutes and papers, correspondence files, films and photographs.

This series consists of all the remaining records of the TPC following sentencing and destruction according to the appropriate Records Disposal Authorities. The files have alphanumeric numbers but it is not known what system was used to generate the numbers. As there are only a small number of records in the series, retrieval would be a simple process of text searching the Excel records listing.
