Full description

This series was used to control the general correspondence alpha-numeric system created by the Ararat Council from circa 1977. It is a record of the subject classifications that were to be used when creating files and was known within the Council as a "filing index". The list was developed over time and ten editions were published. The last edition was published in November 1993.

The list records primary subject classifications and secondary classifications within these.

This series also includes a water supply filing index and a sewerage filing index. Water supply files are prefixed with the letters "WR". Sewerage files are prefixed with the letters "S".
