This series consists of copies of correspondence sent and received in the Melbourne Survey office. Correspondents included Robert Hoddle and the Superintendent of the Port Phillip District.

Correspondence refers to the surveys done in the Alberton area, matters relating to the work of surveyor Mannering Chitty and other personnel appointments and matters. A small quantity of general correspondence contains reports sent by surveyors in their field.
