This series was originally used by the District Survey Office at Ballarat to record details of surveys undertaken for Special Allotments for sale. Details given are the date a fee was received, the number, the name and address of the individual concerned, the location and extent of the land, the valuation and a report by either the surveyor or the Crown lands bailiff.

The volume was also used to record the sales of land. Each page is headed with a Section number with below it the details of the sale of allotments within that Section. Details given are the date of the sale, the number of the allotment, the area of the land, the upset price per lot and per acre, the price at which the lot and acre were sold, the name of the buyer and the total amount for which the allotment was sold.

From 1945 to 1951 the volume was used as the daily mail despatch book noting the date upon which correspondence was sent, the name of the addressee or the file number and the cost of postage.
