Full description

Section 455, Part XVI of the "Local Government Act 1915" allowed municipal councils to enter into contracts for the purpose of executing works directed or authorised by the Act. The same piece of legislation stipulated the need for such contacts to be in writing.

This series registered and summarised contracts let by the Otway Shire for Country Roads Board Contracts. Contract registers were to specify the work to be done and the materials to be furnished, the prices to be paid, the times within which the work was to be completed and the materials to be furnished. These Registers deal with contracts let for the construction and maintenance of roads and for bridges.

The registers record the details in summary form of Country Roads Board contracts entered into by the Shire Council. Information contained in the registers includes:
* Description of the contract
* Locality
* Name and address of the contractor
* Date of commencement of the contract
* Amount of the contract
