VPRS 15479 Curriculum and Research Documents and Publications (Curriculum Materials Library)

This series consists of documents and publications produced or published by the Curriculum and Research Branch (known as the Curriculum Services Unit from 1978) of the Education Department which were maintained within the Department's Curriculum Materials Library.

The Curriculum Materials Library was developed by the Department's Library Branch during the 1978/79 financial year with the cooperation of officers from the Curriculum and Research Branch. According to Department's Annual Report for 1979/80, the Library comprised "..a comprehensive collection of materials covering a broad range of subjects ... .for perusal by teachers and teacher-librarians." At the time of its establishment, the Library was located within the Department's Special Services Unit at 234 Queensberry Street, Carlton.

Individual documents or publications within this Collection include support materials for teachers of particular subjects in primary and secondary schools (such as classroom exercises), research reports and results of various educational surveys. Many of the items which were not published appear to be copies of documents which were distributed to all schools and may also be located in the Trypograph Books that comprises VPRS 1675/P2 Circulars and Memoranda.

The Curriculum Materials Library retained multiple copies for most of the items in this series, presumably to allowing for loans to more than one user simultaneously. All duplicates were discarded when this series was processed at PROV.

It is unclear when the Curriculum Materials Library ceased. No new items appear to have been added to it after 1982. One possibility is that subsequent publications were included in the Department's Ministerial Collection - refer to VPRS 15609.
