Full description
One of the privileges under the Mines Act, conferred by the holding of a miner's right until 1935 was that of residence on up to one acre on a gold-fields area. those occupying a residence area were "deemed in law to be possessed ... of such ... parcels ... and the property therein".This series is an index to the register kept of residence areas and their holders at Rushworth. Details given are the name of the person, the location and the page number in the Register of Residence Areas. There is no indication of the date.
From 1935, with the passing of the Land (Residence Areas) Act 1935 the right of occupation of residence areas was broadened to all Crown lands and placed under the Land Act rather than the Mines Act.
As the date range of this series could not be established from the available record, a date range has been determined utilising the existence of the central agencies responsible for the mining function until 1935.
This series was previously registered as Unit 2 of VPRS 704/P Registers [Rushworth District Land Office].
