These records were created during the time when the PTC's passenger operation of public transport was split into five separate corporations: V/Line for country rail and feeder bus services, Bayside and Hillside trains (each covering roughly half the Melbourne rail network), and Swanston and Yarra trams. Expressions of interest were invited in October 1998, five successful bidders for the contracts were selected in June 1999 and five operating franchises took effect on 29 August 1999. The contracts within this series outline the franchise agreements and contracts of sale or lease of assets on the network.
