VPRS 14330 Register of Correspondence Forwarded from Head Office, Hamilton District Land Office

Full description

This series consists of a register of correspondence forwarded to the Hamilton District Land Office from the Head Office of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) in Melbourne in packets a number of times a week. The details given are the correspondence number (that allocated when the piece of correspondence was originally registered at Head Office), the name of the correspondent, the subject, the dates of receipt of the correspondence, of the report required and of the forwarding of same to Head Office. A remarks column allows for notations regarding the attachment of correspondence to another file or its forwarding to a new location such as Portland.

Correspondence related to reports that were required for the making of Board of Land and Works decisions, matters relating to authority to occupy, survey matters, sales, reports required from the District Surveyor and papers forwarded for municipalities.

The use of these particular registers was discontinued by the Hamiliton District Land Office prior to 1874 as regsters created from that year also include items of local correspondence received directly by it (see VPRS 14331).
