This series consists of the register of inward correspondence for the Crown Lands Office of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538). It is apparent that this office dealt with all dealings in Crown Land relating to licenses to occupy, leases, purchase under pre-emptive right and grants and delineation of Crown reserves for public purposes. Also registered is correspondence relating to vermin destruction and reports from district offices of the Department.

Details recorded in the register are the registration number of the correspondence, the number of any accompanying papers, the dates of the letter and its registry, the name or office or organisation of the correspondent and their residence, the subject of the correspondence and to whom the letter had been referred (if anyone).
