VPRS 14150 Lists and Descriptions of Land Granted for Public Purposes

Full description

This series contains lists of grants made for public purposes. These purposes included those for church facilities for the various denominations, for schools (National and Denominational) and for civic purposes such as cemeteries and market sites as well as land for the Hobson Bay Railway. Details given are of the locality, the area and size of the land, the dates of applications and grants and may include references to correspondence and names of trustees or grantees. Also included in these volumes are detailed survey descriptions of the pieces of land granted.

References may be found to later grants or confirmations of these grants listed in VPRS 14146 Register of Grants for Special Purposes (Grants Without Purchase) annotated as G.W.P or G. S. P.. Other references by volume number and page may be made to VPRS 14148 Special Deeds Books.

Unit 3 of this series includes a small Register of Inward Correspondence received from the Office of His Honour the Superintendent [of the Port Phillip District]. Details given are the date of receipt of the letter and from whom, the date and number of the letter, the Minute of His Honour, the subject of the letter and a summary of the answer sent.

Also found in Unit 3 are a number of returns prepared in the Deeds Branch and details of the regular work of the Branch.
