VPRS 1401 Special Cases on Appeal from the Court of General Sessions (Criminal Jurisdiction) to the Supreme Court of Victoria

Under the provisions of the Justices Law Administration Act 1862, any person aggrieved by the summary conviction of any justice where specified sentences were imposed might appeal to the Court of General Sessions. The Court of General Sessions could state a case in respect of such appeal or any question of law arising thereon for the opinion of the Supreme Court (Section 5).

This series consists of appeals passed from the Court of General Sessions for the ruling of the Supreme Court. Files may include a statement of the appeal, the request for the Supreme Court ruling, the ruling of the Supreme Court and any orders with regard to costs.
