VPRS 1396 Photographs Of State School Buildings In Victoria

The volumes in this series contain photographs of specifically built, large, brick or stone State Schools throughout Victoria and photographs of types and sizes of schools developed as being suitable for smaller schools of various sizes. Each is labelled and most have appended the name of the architect(s) responsible for the design. Most are attributed to Henry Bastow who was, until c1892, Chief Architect of the Public Works Department (VA 669).

There is no certainty regarding the date of the series. Based on the binding of the volumes, the style and content of the photographs and the naming of Bastow as architect, the volume may have been prepared, as other volumes were, for the centenary celebrated in 1888 or for the silver anniversary of the Education Department (in 1898).
