Full description

Section 42 Amending Land Act 1865 and Sections 19 and 20, 49 and 47 Land Act 1869 allowed for the selection of land prior to survey. Once the land had been selected, an accurate survey needed to be completed either by employed or contract surveyors of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) prior to the preparation of leases.

The Parish Register was issued to District Land Offices with the instructions that a page or suitable space was to be allocated to each Town or Parish "with a view to keeping an exact record of all transactions taking place in each locality." These went on to say that "All surveys completed after the date [of commencement of the record] are to be recorded herein...".

Details to be given were the parish, the allotment and section of a piece of land, the area surveyed and the reference to the plan, the area applied for, the name of the applicant and for what purpose was the land to be used, a correspondence number and a decision (presumably by the Local Lands Board).
