Rabbits have long been pests in Australia. According to the "Victorian Year Book, 1905" active operations for the destruction of rabbits, etc., on Crown lands were first undertaken by the Government in 1880, and from that date to the 30th June, 1905, sums amounting to 448,320 pounds had been expended.Rabbit inspector's reports described some landowners as not taking the eradication of rabbits (vermin) seriously. The inspector was able to serve notice on the landowner and had the authority to fine landowners if they did not act to eradicate rabbits.
