Section 455, Part XVI of the Local Government Act 1915 allowed municipal councils to enter into contracts for the purpose of executing works directed or authorised by the Act. The legislation stipulated the need for such contracts to be in writing.The registers record the details in summary form of contracts entered into by council. Information contained in the registers include:
* Description of contract
* Locality
* Name and address of the contractor
* Date of commencement of the contract
* Amount of the contract.
