This series contains a record of cases and depositions (legal statements) sworn before the Skipton Court of Petty Sessions. The depositions pertain mostly to criminal cases and were made mostly by witnesses or the accused.

In the case of Skipton Courts, details of cases heard before the Court of Petty Sessions after July 1869 were recorded in VPRS 3569. Despite this, the deposition book contains two depositions pertaining to a case in May 1872 iand are headed as being taken in the Police Court. The relevant entry in VPRS 3569 states that this particular case was withdrawn from Court in favour of being tried via the Deposition Book.
