Full description

Prior to the passing of the Legal Profession Practice Act 1891, articled clerks seeking admission to practise could do so either as an attorney, solicitor and proctor or as a barrister. Applicants may have been those already admitted elsewhere who were seeking to have their qualifications recognised in Victoria or those who sought admission on the basis of qualifications gained locally.

This series consists of the files of persons admitted to practise as barristers prior to 1891. Files may contain the application and the Affidavit of Conformity (to the Supreme Court Rules), supporting documents consisting of copies of academic results and certification of suitability from other barristers and the Board of Examiners reporting to the Court.
