Full description
With the establishment of the Occupation Branch of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) in 1874, each District had appointed to it officials responsible for the administration of the Lands Act one of these being the District Surveyor. The provisions of Section 42 of the Amending Land Act 1865 and of the Land Act 1869 allowed for the selection and occupation of Crown Land prior to survey. However, once the land was selected, accurate survey needed to be completed for the eventual leasing or purchase of the land. These outward letter books contain duplicates of the correspondence from the District Survey Office at Sandhurst (Bendigo). Included are copies of returns, memoranda, correspondence regarding the carrying out of surveys and the preparation of plans and references to hearings of Local Lands Boards and to applications received for the occupation of Crown land.
VPS 13346/P1 was previously registered as Units 6 and 7 of VPRS 443/P Local Land Board Schedules.
