Full description

This series consists of transcripts of correspondence and memoranda sent by the District Surveyor located at Sale. Correspondence was addressed to both officials of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) in Melbourne and to local correspondents.

Matters dealt with included survey reports, reports regarding land sales, schedules of lands to be available for selection, applications for licences to occupy and leases, appointment of contract surveyors and matters regarding actions by the Crown Lands Bailiff as well as administrative matters such as requisitions. Correspondence also refers to matters to do with the proposed new overland route between Port Albert and Melbourne and matters relating to the Nicholson River diggings.
