Therefore, it can be assumed that these volumes were either meant to be accessioned into the Archival Collection or were simply placed in the same storage facility as these items when the Gas and Fuel Corporation vacated the Flinders Street towers in 1996.The records in this series may be related to those in VPRS 12365 - General Correspondence Subject Files, Gas (Explosives and Gas Examining Branch). Full description

The volumes in custody contain the outward correspondence of the Gas Examiner between 1942 and 1967.

The volumes include records created by the Gas Examiner including letters regarding tests on gas meters and letters offering refunds if meters were found to be incorrectly favouring the gas supplier. The documents also include regular statements relating to results of testings and administrative matters such as letters relating to job applications.

The volumes have an alphabetical index at the front of each volume. This lists the addressee of each outgoing letter and the subject the correspondence was about.
