VPRS 12990 Project Records, Melbourne Underground Railway Loop

This is an artificially created series comprising records created by the Railway Construction Branch of the Board of Land and Works VA 690, Railway Construction Board VA 691 and the Railway Construction and Property Board VA 615 relating to the Melbourne Underground Railway Loop (MURL) construction project.

The Railway Construction Branch of the Board of Land and Works VA 690 was named as the Constructing Authority in the City of Melbourne Underground Railway Construction Act 1960, (No 6652) and proceeded with investigation and planning of the loop.

Prior to the establishment of the Melbourne Underground Loop Authority in 1971, VA 2987, considerable planning for the loop was carried out by the Railway Construction Branch of the Board of Land and Works VA 690, the Railway Construction Board, (R.C.B.) VA 691 and the Railway Construction and Property Board VA 615.

The Melbourne Underground Loop Authority MURLA was responsible for supervising and coordinating the planning, financing and construction of the Melbourne rail loop. For records of the Authority refer to inventory of series for VA 2987, MURLA.

This series comprises:

- Engineer's Progress Certificates, prepared by the Supervising Engineer, signed by the contractor and the Supervising Engineer, and submitted to MURLA for payment.

- Subject Files
