Indexes of Maintenance Orders seemed to have been created in the 1960's using excess copies of Index to Conviction Books that had begun to be phased out during that period.

The manner in which the index was kept varied from court to court. Each entry in the index gives details of the name of the application and/or defendant, the date of the case was heard and the particulars of the offence (this is used to give brief details of the case and the decision). Some indexes also give a reference to the case number in the court register.
