The Central Roads Board, the first agency concerned with the construction and maintenance of main roads and bridges, was abolished on 1 January 1858 and succeeded by the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964) which operated under the statutory control of the Board of Land and Works (VA 744).This series consists of a Cash Book recording the receipt of the budgeted amount and disbursement of it as salaries for both permanent and temporary staff of the Department. On the disbursements page are listed each employee, their position, their yearly salary and the payment for the particular time period. This series provides a record of the employees of the Department of Roads and Bridges.
VPRS 12679/P1 was formerly registered as Units 5 and 6 of VPRS 1142 Cash Book. It was reserialised in 2001 as part of the ARAD Project.
