Full description

This series consists of file registration cards that were part of the multiple number system that was in use from 1983 to 1991. This series was created to register the files created under the multiple number filing system. A card was raised for each secondary heading. All files created under each secondary heading were listed on the one card.

The information recorded on the cards included:

- Primary heading and primary number
- Secondary heading and secondary number
- Tertiary number
- Date file opened, and
- File title.

Tertiary numbers were allocated to new files at the time of registration of the file. The next available number in sequence on a particular card was used as the tertiary number for the newly registered file. The complete file number had three parts derived from the primary and secondary heading numbers with the tertiary number being the third element.
