Successive County Court Rules have required the registrar of the court to keep a register of all verdicts, orders and judgements of the court. The register is the authoritative record of the court.

The Miscellaneous Register was used to record details of cases that were not registered in the County Court Register or, after 1972, the County Court Ordinary or Special Summons Registers (VPRS 3159, VPRS 12566, and VPRS 12567 respectively). Typical cases include actions instituted under acts of parliament that confer a specific jurisdiction on the County Court . For example, applications for registration of a birth after expiration of seven years. The register also includes details of cases transferred from a Magistrates' Court to the County Court.

Information in the register includes:
* Names of the parties to the action
;* Name of the legal practitioner acting for the plaintiff
;* Nature of the action; and
* The order of the Judge.

Note that some time could elapse between the initial registration of a case and the court hearing, after which the Judge's order was added to the original register entry. This is indicated by the series contents date range, which records the dates of the orders in the register. The contents dates are estimates only, based on a sample of register entries.

Researchers are advised that the year in which the County Court first maintained the Miscellaneous Register is subject to further research.
