Full description

This series consists of inward correspondence, reports, instructions, copies of pro forma and survey notes received and kept by the District Surveyor located at Portland. Correspondence was from both officials of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) in Melbourne and local correspondents including the Survey Office at Hamilton.

Matters dealt with included survey reports, reports regarding land sales, schedules of lands to be available for selection, applications for licences to occupy and leases and applications to select unsold land under the Regulations of 1856, instructions regarding surveys and rough and draft survey notes and matters regarding actions by the Crown Lands Bailiff as well as administrative matters such as requisitions.
