This series consists of correspondence received by the Surveyor-General of Victoria. Much of the correspondence deals with applications for employment in the Survey Department and with matters to do with personnel and the supply of equipment for survey purposes. Another substantial number of pieces of correspondence are applications to purchase specific tracts of land from the Crown. Before this could occur, a survey of the land needed to be completed. Other requests were to do with matters relating to the preparation of plans and the situation and alignment of roads.The P consignment includes a specific survey of the Parish of Tarnagulla and applications for new pastoral runs in the Gippsland District. Also included is correspondence received from 1854 to 1862 from the Marine Surveyor covering matters relating to the administration and achievements of the survey of the Victorian coastline.
