Full description

The Honourable G B Kerferd was Attorney-General for the State of Victoria from 1874 to 1876, 1880 and from 1883 to 1885 and for a brief time, also Premier. As Attorney-General he received a large amount of correspondence not officially registered in the records of the Crown Law Department (VA 2825), but which was registered within his own office.

This correspondence included courtesy letters, but also requests from citizens for intervention in various matters or seeking appointment to offices or redress of grievances. This Register does not record all of this correspondence, but appears to record correspondence which was related to the official business of Government in the Law and other Departments. Some registered correspondence may be found in VPRS Unofficial Registered Correspondence of the Attorney-General, Hon G B Kerferd.

Recorded in the Register was an annual single number for each piece of correspondence registered, the date of the piece of correspondence and a brief summary of the contents.
