VPRS 12455 Applications for Exemptions from Military Service

The records in this series consist of the applications made for exemption from military service to the Exemption Court sitting at Rushworth. Under the Commonwealth Conscription Act 1916 and the War Service Regulations 1916, responsibility was delegated to the State Court of Petty Sessions to hear applications for exemption from military service on the allowable grounds. These records were kept separately from the usual Court Registers.

Records in this series consist of the original applications for exemption and the duplicates of the Certificates of Exemption granted by the Court which give the reasons for the Courts decision. A number of Court Exemption Registers are held in custody and also VPRS 10950 Applications for Exemption from Military Service made to the Court at Inglewood.
