Full description

This series consists of a file of correspondence relating to a legal case between Victorian Railways and Messrs Cornish and Bruce in the early 1860s. It would appear that Cornish and Bruce were engaged as contractors in the construction of the Sandhurst Railway, and a disagreement arose over the quantity of ballast required on the No 1 Section of the line.

The contents of the file include correspondence, evidence from various people, the Arbitration, extracts from diaries, and a copy of the Award.

Some of the items in the file have been registered with an annual single correspondence number. However, it does not appear that this file belongs with other Railways correspondence series in PROV custody, such as VPRS 421 (Secretarys Inward Correspondence) and VPRS 425 (Inward Registered Correspondence Railway Construction Branch).
