This series consists of a collection of inward and outward correspondence, accumulated by W Thomas Tait, the then-Chairman of Victorian Railways. The cover of the file in which these records are housed is titled Chairmans Papers, Correspondence re Electrification of Railways at Adelaide. This may have been added after the records active life.

The correspondence in this series was kept separate from his official correspondence, and deals exclusively with his role in assisting a Canadian company (Canada Electric Syndicate Ltd) that was interested in becoming involved in the electrification of the railways in South Australia.
