Letter Books were the means by which copies of correspondence despatched from the office were retained for future reference.VPRS 13939/P1 Outward Correspondence also contains corresponence from the Shire secretary 1866 to 1867. It appears that the Shire Secretary reused blank pages from volumes of the former Town Clerk of the Borough.
Two items of correspondence for 1865 can also be found in VPRS 12296 Unit 2 which were added to the volume after the Road District (Avoca II VA 536) and Borough (Avoca I VA 4162) were united in 1864.
